The first time I ever wrote was sitting in a wadi by a roadside in Afghanistan. In that hell from away from home I found an outlet, a narrator for my Greatest Adventure of All Time. What I put down in that Afghan ditch that day wasn’t important in the scheme of things but I had fianlly done it! A way to give voice to all my frustrations, observations and most dangerously, my questions about America’s place in the Great Game was worth more than hot chow and a shower.
Fast forward 15 years since my modest walk on part in the Longest War, and I have found my voice once again.
